Coloring / Yui HorieColoring is the latest Single by Yui Horie and also the Ending Theme of the anime “Papa no Iu Koto o Kikinasai!”, which started airing in January. It comes with two songs and, as usual, their instrumental versions. There is also a limited edition with a Bonus DVD that contains a Coloring MUSIC CLIP, which I guess is the official PV.

Being a Chiptune Fan I started to like this very soon, with the 8-Bit Melody that is playing from the start. The Song obviously got inspired quite a bit by Bitpop or whatever that is called now, and thats cool. Its also different from all the standard OP/ED Rock-Pop Music that everyone is using, which is always a good thing aswell.

Coloring was composed and arranged by Masaki Mashimo. I checked his older works and did not find anything similar though. Other Yui Horie Songs have a similar style if thats your thing, like “I my me” (Youtube).

The 2nd Song, Monochrome (モノクローム), is an original song for the CD. It also has slight Bitpop references, though these are much more scarce. For some reason I dont like it that much, maybe giving it a 3/5. Coloring however gets a recommendation from me, check it out :)

Buy it at CD Japan (Standard Edition) or Limited Edition!

Natsume

Natsume LogoThe people at Rom Cassette Disc have announced their next compilation CD release, which is called Rom Cassette Disc In NATSUME vol1. The CD goes on sale on the 25th February and will feature music from eight different Natsume games:

  • Touhou Kenbun Roku (FC)Chaos World (Famicom)
  • Chaos World (FC)
  • Dragon Fighter (FC)
  • Final Mission (FC)
  • Shatterhand (NES)
  • Osawagase! Penguin Boy (GB)
  • Mahjong RPG Dora Dora Dora (FC)
  • Wild Guns (SFC)

Aside from Wild Guns this looks like its all the way 8-bit. If you wonder why they included US Version of Shatterhand instead of the japanese one, it is because there seem to be some changes between them (see discussion on vgmdb).

Most of the Tracks from these Games are actually really good, so I’m sure they can do a good compilation with them. They are also talking about a volume 2 over at the rom cassette disc site already, so more seems to be coming already. If you dont know them yet, I also enjoyed the soundtracks from Shatterhand and Chaos World a lot, in case you want to check out some more titles. Here is the Intro Movie from Final Mission:

News 06.01.2012

Happy new year everyone! There are lots of Chiptune / RetroPC News to start 2012!

■ One of my favorite music players, Hoot, has been updated on the 31th December. There is now support for S98 Files, MGSDRV/MPK Files from MSX Computers, a new PC-98 BEEP Driver and lots of other improvements. Too bad it is somehow not running on my machine right now. I got to test it on the Laptop maybe.

■ The next installment of Famicompo Mini NSF Competition is running right now. Tunes can be submitted until January 31th. There is also a Remix Category, so I hope there will be some nice game tunes :)

■ The MCK2CH Archive has been updated again with the latest NSFs from 2CH.

SNESMusic.org was updated with a bunch of new and updated SPC sets.

■The High Voltage SID Collection has also been updated with lots of new and updated game songs from the Commodore 64.

some more CDs

Mostly Comic Market, but there is also a new System 16 Compilation by Wave Master coming up:

■ Sound Barrage – Journey of Life

Circle Sound Barrage will release Journey of Life tomorrow at Comiket. The CD has seven arranged songs from the game Little Busters! by Key. The arrangements were done by LAN’s. Official Website + Crossfade Demo over here.  The circle also has a To Heart 2 CD on the same Page that comes with a nearly 20 minute character dance medley mix.

■Hellion Sounds – Last Floor

Last Floor is the title of the next CD by Hellion Sounds. This time the circle gives us arrangements from several Megami Tensei Games aswell as Etrian Odyssey (Sekaiju no Meikyu) and Bio Senshi Dan. There will be 12 Tracks in total. Official Page.

■ SweetApplePie777 – Sweets!

Non-Key Galgame themed CDs are kinda rare so far. This one has some titles from Air, which you probably guessed from the cover, but also has arrangements from One, Kizuato and Mizuiro featuring Synth Vocals by Hatsune Miku, GUMI and chisa, which is not a synth I think. Official Page + Crossfade demo.

Looking forward to Scarlet from Mizuiro since I like it a lot. I discovered it some time ago after it was used in the game Narcissus. The preview from the crossfade demo sounds kinda different though.

SEGA SYSTEM 16 COMPLETE SOUNDTRACK VOL.3

As for non-comiket CDs, the Wave Master Label has announced a new 3 CD System 16 Compilation with tracks from Golden Axe, E-Swat and some other Games. VGMDB entry here. Release date is set to the 22nd February 2012.
